Current challenges for the manufacturing sector are strictly related to efficiently digitalizing products, processes, and production resources, creating fully functional digital models capable of working in tandem with their real counterparts. These digital models, or Digital Twins, allow real-time absorption, simulation and implementation of variations from the virtual to the real environment, fostering faster detection of problems, adaption to changes and production responses. To address the challenges of digitalizing entire processes, a Digital Twin based on the product lifecycle to support the manufacturing process is proposed. The Digital Twin of the Manufacturing Process seeks to integrate the product twin and the development process twin, thus representing a complete manufacturing process that will be monitored and optimized following information available. Following a product lifecycle perspective, the Digital Twin of the Manufacturing Process will be developed from conception to implementation and usage, being further improved with Artificial Intelligence tools in a second development iteration. The goal is to demonstrate how the Digital Twin of a manufacturing process can be implemented.
In this presentation, we introduce the concepts of the project that aims at developing the Digital Twin of the Manufacturing Process along with its scope and background, highlighting previous partnerships that originated the proposal.
